SOAR Special needs is growing and expanding, and part of this expansion is three day camps in the Kansas City metropolitan area for summer 2023. Due to this exciting expansion, we will need multiple interns for the summer. The internship will begin May 30th and end August 4th, totaling 10 weeks. Most of the weeks’ time will be located at the SOAR office in Lenexa, KS.
Roles serving in the special needs community can look very different, and SOAR strives to meet the needs of all of our participants and their families. Because of this, there will be experience to gain no matter what your major, or intended major may be. As an intern, you’ll not only gain real work experience, but also meet and learn from industry professionals. You will also start to build your own network, from fellow interns to seasoned professionals in various fields that work with those who are a part of the special needs community.
As a SOAR intern for the summer of 2023, you will have a variety of duties that will vary from day to day in the weeks leading up to the camps to help with the understanding of the camp, its participants and volunteers. During the weeks of camp you will have a variety of duties, but the most important duty will be the team leadership role. At our camps there will be teams of 10-12 participants with their buddies, and 2 team leads. As a team lead intern you would be one of those team leads at either of our 2 camps. These camp locations are Lee’s Summit, MO and Overland Park , KS.

“My internship at SOAR Special Needs, was truly transformative. Being blessed with the opportunity to not only work with individuals with special needs, but getting to see and be a part of all of the behind the scenes planning was incredible. The team at SOAR embraced me with open arms and taught me everything I needed to learn. Although my title was an “intern” I can safely say I will forever be apart of the SOAR Special Needs family!”

"Working as an intern for SOAR Special Needs was the most fulfilling way to spend my summer! There is no other job that is as rewarding as working to create a summer camp and then seeing your hard work in the form of smiles and laughs from volunteers and participants alike. The SOAR team is so passionate about their mission you can't help but fall in love with the work."
